• “I really admire these guys, they've done it in the way I would have done it.”

Head chef Neil Simons has designed a seasonal menu of traditional pub favourites as well as something a little different.  He and his team are in the kitchen every day preparing the dishes fresh and his roast of the day and its side-kick, the roast meat roll of the day, are already proving very popular.

On our menu you will find the very best quality fresh ingredients - fantastic sausages; only free range chicken; dry-aged Aberdeenshire steak - sourced from producers who take pride in their produce and an ethical stance in its production.

Our menu will always make the most of seasonal ingredients (which ensures we avoid air-freighting and keeps us in touch with the cycle of the year) while combining the best of great British cooking and influences from around the world that have become part of our culture.

We don't have a children's menu, because we think they should have the opportunity to eat food that's as good as yours, but our chefs are always happy to make smaller portions or simplified versions of anything on the menu.

The Embankment is a Charles Wells pub in Charles Wells' home town, so naturally we have well-kept Eagle IPA, Bombardier and Young's Bitter on tap as well as continental beers and lagers.

We don't believe a pub is the place for a leather-bound tome so our short wine list is accessible and sensibly-priced.  We're as keen to wow you with the quality of our house Sauvignon Blanc as with a really classy Gavi di Gavi - and we are especially pleased to be able to showcase some of the flagship wines imported by Charles Wells and play host to the wine-makers from time to time.

We also serve exceptional spirits at pub prices, pouring Tanqueray gin and Absolut vodka as standard.
