Helping make dreams come true!

If you’ve ever tried our Superfood Salad you might have noticed a little note underneath the dish on the menu mentioning Sports Traider. The Embankment works closely with this organisation and donates 25p to them for every Superfood Salad sold in the pub.

Sports Traider is a youth-focused organisation offering children the kit and support they need to get into sport, whatever their background. We absolutely love hearing how we are helping out and how the kids are getting on. We received a lovely note the other day from a parent whose child we had helped pursue his dreams, Lewis a local Bedford teenager.

Lewis’ dream is to become a professional footballer, but after his Mum was involved in a car accident resulting in a fractured pelvis, Lewis was going to give up on his dream as financially things were too tight. Thankfully they met Lance of Sports Traider at their young Carers club and he had told both him and his brother Taylor never to give up on their dreams. Things were tight for the family, and the boys missed out on the usual activities, as once home from school they would help make the tea and care for their baby sister.

Taylor, thankfully kept hold of Lance from Sports Traider’s card after they had met him at Young Carers club. The next day, Lewis’ mum emailed Lance explaining the situation and promptly received a call in which Sports Traider offered to fund Lewis’ football training.

Following training sessions funded by Sports Traider, the past season has been hugely successful for Lewis and he was asked to captain Crystal Palace U16s in the Hyde League. Whilst juggling GCSEs with football training at Stevenage and AFC Dunstable, he got great results and consequently was asked to stay and do his A levels there whilst playing football.

Things continued to go from strength to strength as he continued to captain the county, then being chosen to represent Bedfordshire in England’s U18s regional trials. He made it through four heats and to the final selection at the England training camp and is now on the reserve list for this season.

We are so happy to hear that Lewis still studies and plays football at a high level thanks to the work Sports Traider do and we are very pleased to lend a helping hand.

A love of sport must run in the family as his brother, Taylor is now playing rugby for Bedford Blues, Bedfordshire county and is in the Northampton Saints development programme.

Good work boys, keep it up!
